The Penny - Goodbye, Adios, See Ya
The penny was first minted in 1793,so it's been around for over 230 years.
An even earlier 1/2 cent coinwas done away with in 1857.
Today it costs 3.69 cents to make one penny,almost 4 times its monetary value.
The final order for materials to makepennies was in May of 2025 andwill be used up by early 2026.
