There is an Urban Legend that says a tornado
can pluck the feathers right off a chicken,
leaving the poor bird as naked as the
rubber version used by prop comics.
Though not in an official statement,
the National Severe Storms Forecast Center
states that enough of these events
have been reported that it deserves
a bit of recognition.
There is another theory though.
A number of birds, when feeling they are
under attack, will shed their feathers
on their own, leaving the attacker with
just a mouth full of feathers instead of bird butt.
So it could be the same if the chicken becomes
frightened enough by the strength of
the tornadic winds that it goes into
Defense Mode and lets the feathers fly.
Could be... maybe... who knows...
In either event the result is still the same,
a chilly, shivering, chicken.
