Crap

Crap

Holy crap!
Did you see that crap?
Look at that crap!

We've all heard it, and probably used it,
that ubiquitous four letter word... crap.

We all know what it means, literally,
and now in modern vernacular its come to mean
almost anything.  Really.  Just about
a n y t h i n g can be referred to as... crap,
but where did the term come from originally?

The story goes that a plumber named Thomas Crapper
invented the flushable toilet and had his name
stamped on his products, and people started referring
to indulging in a certain biological activity as
going to the crapper, or taking a crap.

A good yarn, to be sure, but not exactly true.

While Crapper held several patents for improving
the flushable toilet, he didn't actually invent it, and
the word itself dates back to a time before Ol' Tom
was even born, and most often referred to rubbish.

How 'bout that crap...
